Types of Stem Cells

  • Embryonic Stem Cells: Can become any cell type in the body (pluripotent). They are derived from early-stage embryos.
  • Adult Stem Cells: Found in tissues like bone marrow, blood, and the brain. These cells help with repair and maintenance and are often tissue-specific.
  • Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs): Adult cells reprogrammed to behave like embryonic stem cells. They are a promising tool for regenerative medicine and research.
  • Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs): Commonly found in fat, bone marrow, and umbilical cord tissue. MSCs are widely studied for their anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties.
